Granny Hobbies & the New Self-Care

Self-care doesn’t always have to look like bubble baths and journaling.

Lately, I’ve been craving something slower, more hands-on and surprisingly, I’m finding inspiration in the trending hobbies once thought only “for grandmas.”

I used to love cross stitching and scrapbooking. Quiet, creative moments that brought a sense of peace and accomplishment. And now, I’m watching my daughters dive into their own versions: sourdough baking, crocheting, even dabbling in homesteading. It’s beautiful, it’s grounding, and honestly…it’s making me want to jump back in.

These so-called “granny hobbies” are more than trends, they’re a return to presence, to making things with your hands, to finding joy in the doing, not just the finishing. And in a world that moves fast and demands more, maybe that’s the kind of self-care we’ve been needing all along.

Hop into the next WEW meeting and ask around if anyone is embracing the “granny hobby” movement. Maybe we should take this idea and gather a group to try out some of these hobbies. Would love to hear your thoughts on your favorite granny hobby ideas.
