The bad news is that Time Flies. The good news is that YOU are the pilot.

Is anyone else wondering how summer went by THAT fast?
It feels like we were just talking about all the things we were going to do this summer, and suddenly kids are heading back to school, schedules are getting crazy again, and somehow the stores have decided it’s practically Halloween and Christmas is right around the corner!
This time of year can leave me feeling a little deflated. I start thinking about the things I wanted to do but didn’t, the people I meant to see, the places I thought we’d go…and then I make the mistake of opening social media. – Oh…and then you know what happens next.
Everyone else apparently had the most magical summer of their lives! They did ALL the things I thought about doing and went to all the events I didn’t have time for. 😢
And that’s when FOMO starts creeping in.
I’ll see something coming up and think, That sounds amazing. I’m going! I register, put it on my calendar and genuinely look forward to it.
Then the actual day comes.
And here’s something I’ve learned about myself that I say all the time: “The person I was when I signed up for the event is not the same person I am when it’s time to actually GO to the event. “
When I registered, I was excited and ready to conquer the world. Three weeks later, I’ve had a long day, I’m tired, I don’t know who else is going, I’m not feeling particularly social and suddenly staying home sounds pretty darn good.
I’ve talked myself out of going to things for all of those reasons.
And then…the pictures start showing up.
Everyone is laughing. Someone posts about the amazing speaker. I see two people I would have LOVED to connect with. Someone talks about a conversation that happened or an opportunity that came from being there.
And I’m kicking myself.
I think a lot of women do this more than we admit. Sometimes it’s exhaustion, but sometimes it’s that little voice saying, You won’t know anyone. What if you feel awkward? What if everyone else already knows each other? Maybe you should just stay home.
The bad news is that Time Flies. The good news is that YOU are the pilot.
When I feel myself wanting to back out, I try to make showing up easier. I’ll text someone and ask if they’re going. I’ll remember why I wanted to go in the first place. And sometimes I simply have to stop negotiating with myself, get dressed and walk out the door.
Because almost every time I push through that initial resistance, I’m ALWAYS glad I went.
Maybe I meet someone. Maybe I learn something. Maybe I laugh way more than I expected. Sometimes one conversation leads to another connection that leads to an opportunity I never could have planned.
Now, I never want anyone to feel guilty because they chose the comfy couch over chatting with others, there are times when staying home really IS the right decision. Sometimes you need the rest. Sometimes your family needs you. Sometimes life happens. Sometimes that deadline really is looming.
If that’s where you are, don’t punish yourself by scrolling through everyone’s pictures afterward and turning FOMO into regret. Give yourself some grace…and then make a different decision about the NEXT opportunity.
In fact, I’ve got one for you.
Consider this my personal invitation to come to a WEW event.
If you’ve been watching us from the sidelines, wondering if you should come, but you’re nervous because you don’t know anyone – come anyway.
If you’ve registered before and talked yourself out of going and it’s been awhile since you’ve been – show up again.
If you’ve been thinking, I really need to get out, meet some new women and do something for ME – – this is your sign.
We have a LOT of fun things planned and even more cool stuff coming. And yes, you’ll make business connections and learn things, but you’ll also laugh, have real conversations and meet women who genuinely want to see other women succeed.
Find a WEW event. Sign up. And when the day comes and that little voice starts telling you to stay home, remember this email.
Get up and GO.
We’ll be really glad you’re there. I’ll be glad you’re there. And if you need someone to go with, message me. – it might be the push I need to show up too. ☺️
