GUEST SPEAKER: Katie Martin, CFA, CFP®
TOPIC: Raising Financially-Smart Kids
DECEMBER 03, 2020
The sooner our kids can begin to learn about money – understanding how to earn it, how to spend it, how to save it, and overall healthy financial behaviors – the more likely it is they’ll grow up to be financially-responsible adults. Since more than half of US states (including Illinois and Missouri) do not require high school students to take a personal finance course, parents often play a critical role in educating their kids about money.
A recent survey by Money Confident Kids found that less than 1 in 4 children talk to their parents frequently about money.
Part of this could be because we’re not sure how to start the conversation. Don’t let that stop you any more! Katie is a financial advisor passionate about helping her clients, particularly women, feel empowered in their financial future, and that starts with increasing financial literacy in our kids. She will share ideas for how you can talk to kids of all ages about money in order to set them up for a bright financial future.
