The Permission Slip

Can we talk about this obsession with “the end of summer” for a second? I’m not ready to let go so why are we talking like it’s over???
Every August I start seeing it – the countdowns, the back to school posts, the “soak it up before it’s gone” energy. And I get it, I do. But I also want to gently call something out…
Who exactly decided that summer ends in August???? 🤷♀️
Because here in the St. Louis area, summer weather runs well into October. And I still work five days a week regardless of what month it is. My kids are grown, so my schedule isn’t tied to anyone’s school calendar. I have weekends – unless we have a popsicle event for our family business, and honestly even that is fun in its own way. So why am I – why are WE – rushing to squeeze summer into an arbitrary window that someone else defined?
We don’t have to live by that timeline.
I’m giving you a permission slip right now. An actual one. (Consider this your official document. lol)

I’ve been working hard this year on letting go of timelines and expectations that were never really mine to begin with. This is just one more.
Some of the best conversations I’ve had about reclaiming my own definition of things have happened inside WEW meetings or during S.O.S. moments. I challenge you to bring this topic up during the shared time and discuss it at the table. The right time is whenever you decide it is. (See what I did there?)
Tell me what you find out. I’m always looking for new insight!
