The Relationships You Build Before You Need Them

We often think about networking when we need something. We need a referral, a recommendation, an introduction, some advice or simply someone who understands what we’re going through.
But the best time to build those relationships isn’t when we suddenly need them. It’s during the ordinary months when we can show up, have a conversation and get to know the women around us without an immediate ask attached.
That’s one of the reasons I hope you’ll make room for a WEW meeting or event soon. The woman you sit beside may not need your services today, and you may not need hers, but that doesn’t mean the connection won’t become meaningful later. Some of the best opportunities begin with a simple conversation that neither person realized would matter at the time.
Here’s my challenge for you this month: choose one WEW event, meet someone new while you’re there and reconnect with someone you haven’t talked to in a while. Then follow up after the event instead of letting that conversation end when you walk out the door.
Your network becomes valuable because you continue to nurture it. Take a look at everything happening in October and decide where you’re going to show up.
