Are People Seeing Your “Open” Sign?
Hey friend,
Can I tell you something that changed everything for me?
Before I started networking, my version of “marketing” was pretty much the phone book. (Yes—I’m that old. 😆) I didn’t fully get what it meant to really connect with people face-to-face and tell my story with purpose and passion.
That all shifted when I finally got out there and started networking with intention. I admit, I started out as that cringy sales-y networker, spewing my business and shoving my business card at the person I was talking to. 🤢 (I wish I could go back and apologize – but everyone was networking that way too)
After some time and trials I had that “a-ha!” moment. Sitting across from someone, looking them in the eye, and sharing what I love to do was a game-changer. I wasn’t trying to sell anything. I was building something way more powerful: trust.
Over time, I realized it wasn’t just about me being heard. It was about me listening, too. Really listening. Because now, when someone says, “Do you know anyone who…?” I get to say, “Yes! I do. You need to meet her.” And I know there are women out there doing the same for me and speaking my name in rooms where I’m not even present. That’s magic.

So here’s the question I want to ask you: Is your business visible in the ways that really matter?
If you’re showing up to meetings, amazing. That’s your moment to share your mission, your magic, your why. If you’re in the WEW Member Directory – – YES! That’s where people look when they want to follow up with “that incredible woman who shared about her coaching business” or “the one with that amazing event idea.” And if you’re not in there yet? Please get in. We want to send people your way, but we need to know how to find you.
And then there’s the WEW Member Marketplace. That place is hopping lately. It’s where you can post your events, products, or services so more women can say, “I want to support her.” We’re directing people there more and more, and they’re looking for you.
The other thing? Keep an eye out for more collaborative events with other organizations we’ve personally vetted. We’re always looking for ways to expand your network with groups that share our heart and values. Don’t forget about visiting other chapters in your area!
I know social media is easier and faster. But nothing replaces the impact of someone remembering your name – because they felt something when they met you. We all know the quote from Maya Angelou and it is spot on “people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
If you want to build a community that talks about you in the best rooms, be the one who shows up, listens well, and puts her “open” sign out for the world to see.
