Presentation Title: Oh, That’s Why I Do That! Understanding the Neuroscience Behind Our Best (and Worst) Behavior

Description of presentation that we can use for promoting event:

Have you ever had a moment where something happens and, before you’re even really aware, you react – and then are left thinking “Why did I do that?” Our brains are fascinating machines. There is a miniscule space of time between when something happens and when we respond to it – .2 seconds to be exact. That’s not very much time! The good news is that if we become more aware of the things that trigger reactions for us, and why they trigger us, we can re-wire our brains to more productive reactions.

This program will introduce participants to the SCARF model – an easy framework that helps you remember the five key domains that influence our behavior in social situations. Through group discussion and presentation, we will dive into typical responses to workplace events and learn how to recognize when our behaviors are causing a positive or negative response in others. Then we’ll take that a step further and develop an action plan for anticipating reactions in ourselves and others, then identifying specific strategies to mitigate potential negative consequences.
